Preview : Team Canada is advancing to the gold medal game in their debut at the IFAF Senior Football World Championships in Graz, Austria.
Canada needed to defeat Japan on Wednesday to advance, and they did just that with a hardfought 31-27 victory.
Former University of Saskatchewan Huskie running back David Stevens was named MVP for Canada as he rushed for 65 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries and added an exciting 72 yard catch and run late in the game to help set up Canada's winning touchdown.
Canada, which led 17-14 at the half defeated a strong Japanese team that has played in all three previous championships, winning two.
Canada will face the US in the finals, who defeated Mexico 17-7 to advance to the gold medal game which will be played on Saturday.
